Aralsk — Aral region.
Population — 34 000 people. The Lesser (Northern) Aral is fed by the Syr Darya. After the Kokaral Dam the level rose, water returned and fishing is reviving — but in strong wind dust may be blown off the exposed seabed.
Good news. Aralsk belongs to the northern Aral region: here the Lesser Aral is recovering thanks to the Kokaral Dam on the Syr Darya. This is a different fate than the drying Greater (Southern) Aral.
